Hugo Couto Moreira
Research Assistant
Biography
Hugo is an enthusiastic Master in Bioengineering who attended the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto, specializing in Molecular Bioengineering. During his degree, Hugo acquired international experience as an ERASMUS+ research trainee at the Institut Curie, in Paris, where he delved into the embryonic development of different mice glands using in-vitro organoids and ex-vivo explants. Later, Hugo developed his Master’s thesis at i3s, in Porto, using an optogenetic system to investigate whether and how epithelial tissues can recover their organization after a transient period of polarity loss. Currently, Hugo is more focused on the field of translational biology where he can establish bridges between health innovation and clinical needs. Hugo strongly believes cell reprogramming is the key to unlocking new therapeutic possibilities.
Outside the lab, Hugo enjoys traveling, going to the beach, and experimenting in the kitchen.
