Rita Sousa e Silva

PhD Student

Biography

Rita has a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a master´s degree in Cell and Molecular Biology, both obtained from the University of Porto (Portugal). Her master’s project was focused on spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, where she used in silico methods to predict protein-protein interactions to identify potential therapeutic targets and confirmed that Drosophila melanogaster is a good model to study such disorder. Rita believes that a symbiosis between experimental and computational approaches is essential for scientific progress. Her willingness to make a difference in the fight against society’s devastating diseases and her great interest in the immunology field were key factors to join the Pereira lab.

In her spare time, Rita loves to watch movies and series, read books, and recently started to learn how to sew.
