Luís Henriques-Oliveira
PhD Student
Understanding Dendritic Cell Diversity with Direct Cell Reprogramming
Biography
Since his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Luís has grown a great interest on immunity, especially on the molecular and cell biology of the immune system. As such, he has later developed his Master thesis focusing on using direct cell reprogramming to better understand the heterogeneity of conventional dendritic cells type 2 (cDC2).
Currently a PhD student, he now aims at further developing this project, extending a direct cell reprogramming approach to dive into the diversity of all the dendritic cell lineage, also opening new possibilities for patient-tailored reprogramming-based immunotherapy approaches.
Besides research, Luís also enjoys contributing to knowledge dissemination through science communication, having been a finalist of the FameLab 2017 and the 3-Minute Thesis Competition 2021 contests in Portugal. SciComm activities allow him to join his fascination for science with his enthusiasm for communication and public outreach, letting him share both his own and others’ science stories.
